COVID-19 is a viral infection and as a general rule viral infections usually last for two weeks on average and resolve spontaneously. The only big difference with COVID-19 is that it predisposes you to develop viral pneumonia when the infection reaches your lungs and in some cases complications set in. You develop secondary bacterial pneumonia and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
80% of people infected with COVID-19 are asymptomatic and a lot of people get infected with COVID-19 without them knowing that they had the infection.
Another 10%-15% have mild symptoms like nasal discharge, colds and cough, and mild fever. Some also have headaches which last only for a few days. The only characteristic symptom that could differentiate COVID-19 infection with other upper respiratory tract infections is the development of ANOSMIA (loss of sense of smell) and AGEUSIA (loss of taste).
These symptoms are so pronounced that if you experience either of these, most likely you have COVID-19 infection. (You will need a swab test).
Continue to monitor your oxygen saturation level. This is the new normal. If you have a thermometer at home; you equally need an SPO2 meter just as well.
Reference Values (seek medical advice if positive or symptomatic, even if your current readings are within this range):
• Blood oxygen saturation level (Normal Value = 94 to 98)
• Pulse rate (NV = 70 to 100)
